EAW Fleet Air Arm Fairey Fulmar - Probably of 803 squadron aboard HMS Formidable during 1941 Mediterranean convoys escorts, but could also be from 800 Squadron aboard HMS Indomintable in the Med 1941.

Fairey's Fulmar was the Fleet Air Arm's first carrier-based fighter with the same weight and firepower of the RAF's Hurricane and Spitfire. In fact, the Fulmar was developed for the FAA after being being rejected by the RAF.

The first aircraft entered service with the FAA in June 1940, when No.806 Squadron received them while stationed at Worthy Down. With it's lack of speed, and the Admiralty's need for a truly modern carrier-based fighter, the Fulmar began being replaced by the Supermarine Seafire by 1943. While it was not the most desirable of fighters, the aircraft managed to hold the line and play very important roles in the early defense of Malta, Mediterranean convoys defense, and the defense of Ceylon. It was fairly effective against bombers and various Italian aircraft of similar performance. In fact, it accounted for nearly 1/3 of all the aircraft shot down by the FAA in WWII.

This 3dz model was developed by Claudio Wilches from Captain Kurt's Fairey Battle model, and then delivered back to Captain Kurt to fix several rendering and texture problems. The skin is also by Claudio.

For use with Charles Gunst's ECAPanel in the Spitfire I slot. Simply place the the .3DZ and .TPC files in your EAW folder. Don't forget to drop the "PFULMV.TPC" file wich is the wing view skin.

Have fun,

Claudio Wilches and Captain Kurt
